چکیده

The aim of this study was to map soil erosion on the Mediterranean island of Cyprus. The G2 model, an empirical model for month-time step erosion assessments, was used. Soil losses in Cyprus were mapped at a 100 m cell size, while sediment yields at a sub-basin scale of 0.62 km2 mean size. The results indicated a mean annual erosion rate of 11.75 t ha−1 y−1, with October and November being the most erosive months. The 34% of the island’s surface was found to exceed non-sustainable erosion rates (>10 t ha−1 y−1), with sclerophyllous vegetation, coniferous forests, and non-irrigated arable land being the most extensive non-sustainable erosive land covers. The mean sediment delivery ratio (SDR) was found to be 0.26, while the mean annual specific sediment yield (SSY) value for Cyprus was found to be 3.32 t ha−1 y−1. The annual sediment yield of the entire island was found to be 2.746 Mt y−1. This study was the first to provide complete and detailed erosion figures for Cyprus at a country scale. The geodatabase and all information records of the study are available at the European Soil Data Centre (ESDAC) of the Joint Research Centre (JRC). Soil  erosion  as a  one  of  the  biggest  environmental  problems  worldwide, is threatening  both ecosystem health and  food security. This case study conducted in Khamsan paired watersheds aimed to compare runoff volume and sediment yields from 51 natural rainfall events on 18 USLE’s standard plots, where they had installed on the different conditions in the term of enclosure and aspect. Evaluation of soil losses and sediment yield using modified PSIAC model

ABSTRACT- One of the big problems today human societies are faced with is the problem of soil erosion. In this study, the "MPSIAC model" was used to estimate sediment yield and provide sediment yield map in Cachoyeh watershed. The MPSIAC method incorporates nine environmental factors that contribute to sediment yield of the watershed. These factors are: surface geology, soil, climate, runoff, t...

Identification of critical sediment source areas across the Gharesou watershed, Northeastern Iran, using hydrological modeling

In this study, the process-based watershed model, Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT), was used for simulating hydrology and sediment transport in the Gharesou watershed and for identifying critical areas of soil erosion and water pollution. After model calibration and uncertainty analysis using SUFI-2 (Sequential Uncertainty Fitting, ver. 2) method, the outputs of the calibrated model were u...

Effect of soil erosion on available phosphorus losses in a Hyrcanian watershed

One of the most important main environmental problems is soil erosion and its affects. Eutrophication, low oxygen levels and `high nutrient (nitrogen and phosphorus) concentrations in reservoirs, channel and other water courses, is a common water pollution feature. Phosphorus (P) is one of the major plant nutrients and also the major nutrients controlling eutrophication of surface water. The ai...

Soil and Water Assessment Tool Hydrologic and Water Quality Evaluation of Poultry Litter Application to Small‐scale Subwatersheds in Texas

The application of poultry litter to agricultural land has become a topic of interest for policy makers due to public concern about its effects on water quality. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) version 2005 is designed to assess nonpoint and point sources of pollution. In this study, six subwatersheds in Texas (HUC‐8; 12070101) are used to evaluate the model's ability to simulate wate...
